We congratulate AACR member Dr. Louis M. Staudt of @theNCI on his election to the National Academy of Sciences.

Globally, gastric cancer is the sixth most common malignancy with the third highest mortality. The prevalence of gastric cancer worldwide is approximately million patients, of which an estimated 10%, or approximately 150,000 patients, have FGFR2 gene-amplified tumors that overexpress FGFR2b. We believe there are approximately 17,000 US patients and approximately 39,000 EU patients annually. We estimate that compared to the US, there are approximately 4 times the number of patients in Japan and 10 times the number of patients in urban China. We believe 10% of these patients would be treatment eligible.
